Carling Cup – Manchester United young side won Carling Cup

United edged a tense Carling Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur, winning a second major trophy of the season after a penalty shootout at Wembley.

Ben Foster saved superbly from Jamie O’Hara and David Bentley missed the target altogether, allowing Anderson to score the winning penalty after Ryan Giggs, Carlos Tevez and Cristiano Ronaldo had all successfully converted.

It was no more than United deserved for bossing much of the match itself. Ronaldo came closest to winning the cup in normal time, but his powerful effort was denied by the post in the dying seconds of a close-fought final.

True to his word, Sir Alex kept faith with the players who had taken the Reds to Wembley. With the exception of Patrice Evra and Rio Ferdinand, every member of the starting XI had started at least one match earlier in the competition.

Roman Pavlyuchenko dreams of playing for Manchester United

Tottenham striker Roman Pavlyuchenko has dropped a bombshell ahead of this weekend’s Carling Cup final by admitting his dream is to play for Manchester United.

His shock claims about wanting to play for Sir Alex Ferguson could unsettle Harry Redknapp’s team as they go into the Wembley clash hoping to restore some pride to their below-par season.

Asked whether he wanted to play for Manchester United, Pavlyuchenko said: “It would be wrong not to dream about this.

“I have realised that the English Premier League is exactly why you should start playing football in the first place. And Manchester United is the leader of it. Once your first dream comes true you must start dreaming of another target.” – telegraph.co.uk

Yeah..nothing shocking about Pavlychenko statement. All good players want to play for United. Only their ego stop them to say so…

Carling Cup – Teves runs amok!

Man United 4
Tevez (36, 50, 54, 90), Nani (39)
Blackburn 3
McCarthy (47, 91), Derbyshire (84)

A Carlos Tevez quadruple sealed an impressive 5-3 victory over Blackburn Rovers and sent the Reds into the last four of the Carling Cup.

Sir Alex Ferguson made 10 changes to the United team who won at Manchester City on Sunday but they were still too strong for Rovers at Old Trafford.

The Argentine opened the scoring in the first half, before netting a further three times after the break. Nani also got in on the act to ensure United’s place in the semi-finals.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who watched from the stands to mark the start of his two-game touchline ban, once again opted for a youthful line-up, including a first Old Trafford appearance in a red shirt for goalkeeper Ben Foster. There was a sprinkling of experience within the side, however, with skipper Gary Neville lining up alongside Jonny Evans at centre-half, while John O’Shea took up the left-back spot. Ryan Giggs and Carlos Tevez provided the combined threat up front.

As United fans chanted “Argentina’’, Tevez seemed on a mission to show why the club need to hold on to him, playing a part in United’s first two goals and scoring the third, a penalty, and fourth, a real beauty. This performance will doubtless colour thoughts during ongoing contract talks over whether Tevez’s strange loan deal should be made permanent, a move that would cost United £32 million (minus the £6m already paid for his current rental).

Wednesday night highlighted Tevez’s usefulness. The sharp spearhead of United’s 4-2-3-1 formation, Tevez happily ran everywhere, dropping deep, exchanging passes, building moves as well as trying to get the end of them – Telegraph.co.uk.

Great performances from Teves! 4 goals??? oh..great! This match not only haunt Paul Ince but also Sir Alex as well. Should he let Teves go?? With this 4 goals…he must think about it again.

But this huge win still worry me about United performances. Give away another 3 goals at Old Trafford…emmm…its remind me of Hull.
