Manchester United – The First Champions Youth Cup Champion!
The 2007 Champions Youth Cup was the first edition of an annual football tournament, endorsed by the G-14 group to be a Club World Championship for the Under-19 teams of some of the the world’s largest clubs.
Each match lasts only 70 minutes, and, in the event of a draw in the knock-out stage, there is no extra time.
The first Champions Youth Cup took place in Malaysia from 5 August to 19 August 2007. It featured sixteen teams: eleven European teams, two teams from South America, a host invitee team from Europe, a host invitee team from Asia and the U-19 national team of the tournament hosts, Malaysia.
The good things about this first tournament was…the title goes to Manchester United U19 after they defeated Juventus 1-0!!
It was a classic battle between Juventus, a team with the best defensive record in the tournament, against Manchester United, a side blessed with free-flowing attacking play.
In the end all it took was a moment of genius from Manchester United’s rising star Febian Brandy to clinch the inaugural Champions Youth Cup trophy at the Bukit Jalil Stadium here today. Brandy, in the 50th minute, sneaked past the defence and blasted the Devils ahead.
